Experience culture and tradition

Cultural enjoyment plays a big role in the
Saalfelden Leogang region.

You are always welcome to participate in the cultural discourse between rural and urban life, a regional and world view, between tradition and innovation.

With numerous events big and small, the region offers a variety-filled cultural program year-round.
Museums such as Ritzensee Heritage Museum and Leogang Mining Museum cast light on traditions and folk customs, providing glimpses into local lifestyle, culture and history.

Folk customs are colorful examples of traditions that are alive and well. Depending on the time of year, the region hosts a variety of events, from the Leonhardiritt to Krampus and Perchten parades, from forest, farm and fire-brigade festivals to Advent music concerts.
Traditional markets, concerts, heritage evenings and Harvest Festival celebrations, Easter and Solstice bonfires* (1st Saturday after 21 June), Nostalgia Skiing, ice-stock tournaments and much more - along with the legendary Jazz Festival (end of August in Saalfelden) - are amongst the region's annual highlights.

When mountains are in flames

Solstice Bonfires are an old local tradition, lighting up the mountains of the Pinzgau at the astronomical start of summer. Countless bonfires are ignited on this special evening along the Steinernes Meer and the Leoganger Steinberge. The tradition goes back to pre-Christian times, the fire symbolizing and intended to conjure up the return of the sun.
