Training as an MTB Guide

The Austrian Association of Bike Guides - Bikepro  (www.bikepro.at) conducts training for certification as a Mountainbike Guide.


Instruction is offered by Bikepro in cooperation with ÖRV and MTS Mountainbike Holidays.

Training Goals
Upon successful completion of training, the mountain bike guide should be able to organize and lead tours in the tourism sector.  Biking expertise and methodical training guarantee that the MTB guide leads the group safely through the open countryside, always with a view to eco-friendliness, and is able to provide advice on riding technique.  The guide's subject-matter and social expertise allows him/her to contribute substantially to a positive overall experience for participants.

  • Practical, methodical exercises (to teach different skills)
  • Riding technique (improve personal ability)
  • Touring (how to lead: group guiding, navigation,...)

  • Professional Skills/Tourism.

 

Final Examination: The last 2 days of the course are for finals, both in theory and practice.  Upon successful completion of training, participants receive a certificate and I.D.

Conditions of Participation

  • Technical Skills - Safe mountain biker on single trails (incl. sharp turns and steeper up-/downhill passages)
  • Appropriate physical condition (please see Medical Clearance) and good overall endurance 
  • Own bike and equipment (please see Equipment List)


Equipment List

Mountain Bike
The mountain bike must be in flawless technical condition!

Recommended and Suitable Mountain Bike Models:

  • Hardtail or Marathon fully
  • Safety Pedal / Combo Pedal


Other Gear

  • Holder for a drinks bottle or hydration backpack
  • Service equipment
  • First aid equipment
  • Bike pants: long and short
  • Bike jersey: long and short
  • Shoes for various pedals
  • Helmet, gloves, sports glasses and rucksack 
  • Wind and rain gear (pants and jacket)


Recommendation

  • Functional underclothing
